About the Breed
This beautiful ‘pure natures’ dog was the shepherds preferred choice. He endured long working hours and due to his intelligence, could often work alone. His job varied and sometimes he would have to take a few goats or sheep up into the mountains and guard them, othertimes he would be responsible for guiding and protecting a large herd, always reliable, vigilant and loyal.
The Gos is active but well balanced and easily can work alone due to his intelligence and being able to use his own initiative. As you learn about the history of the breed it is clear to see how his functions and abilities fit into family life. He shows great loyalty to his boss and is also a vigilant guard dog. He is a wonderful family and companion dog and soon bonds with his family, always alert, faithful and protecting. This beautiful dog is very playful and takes much enjoyment from the inclusion in family life. He will enjoy accompanying you on long walks and thrives on any sport or games. He can endure extreme temperatures of heat and cold without any problems. Our dogs especially love playing in the snow but take equal enjoyment on our frequent trips to the beach, happy just being with their family.
The Gos d’Atura is a dog with a beautiful rustic coat and a thick undercoat. He really is a rainbow of colours and has different tones and shades running through his coat. These tones can change depending on climate and chromatic changes. Although active he is a very sedate dog around the house.
I like to think of the Gos d’Atura as the great defender and tireless worker. He thrives on pleasing his boss. Because of his intelligence he is easily trainable. This breed is from the Group 1 herding and pastoral group and therefore it is necessary to stimulate him with exercise and play. This breed will love taking part in agility, flyball, sheepherding and treball. Because of his alertness and instinct to guard he will very easily bark. Barking can easily be controlled with education and training which should be consistent. He is a breed that needs stimulation from work, play and inclusion in family life.
